First, download and install Winamp: http://www.winamp.com/

Then download http://www.oddsock.org/tools/edcast/

This will transcode the mp3s to 128bit before streaming them to the server. It will ask you to download LAME, which you need to do. Unzip the lame download and take the lame_enc.dll and place it in the c:/program files/winamp/ folder. Without this dll in that folder, it won't work.

Open winamp and hit CTRL P (or right click and go to Options > Preferences)

Go to Plug-ins > DSP/Effect and click on "edcast"

The "edcast" window will pop up. In this window you'll see a microphone with a line through it. This is what you can click to do a live feed from another device or program, but do that later.

Click "Add Encoder"

Below, you'll see something that says Vorbis: right click that and select "configure" and set up the following:

Bitrate: 28
Samplerate: 44100
Channels: 2
Encoder Type: MP3 Lame
Server Type: Icecast2
Server IP: 69.175.14.162
Server Port: 8654
Encoder Password: [Post in "Want to DJ?" forum to get password]
Mountpoint: /live
Reconnect Seconds: 10

On the top there is a button called YP Stream Settings, You can put whatever you want here, just try to identify our selves =)

Check Public Server

Stream Name (This is where you should put your DJ handle Here is what I have now): aproxy @ -= Global | RADIO | Agenda =-
Description: -= Global | RADIO | Agenda =-
Stream URL: http://globalradioagenda.org

Now click OK

You should be ready to go. It won't let you connect while someone else is DJing, that is where the Forums but more importantly, the IRC channel come in.

When can I DJ?

Join the #globalradioagenda channel on irc.gamesurge.net.

The active DJ should be in this channel. The G|R|A-Cyborg is an autoDJ that will play music if no "live" DJ is streaming.

If the G|R|A-Cyborg DJ Subprocess is the DJ, then login with your credentials. (You should have this in an email).

Send the bot a login message
Code:
/msg G|R|A-Cyborg !reqlogin [nick] [password]

Not tell the bot to stop playing and count down till you go live:
Code:
!autodj-stop

The bot should give you a count down till the end of its song. Get Ready! Once its done, press connect!

If successful, you're name should show up as the DJ and the song information should be playing.

What should I do when I am done?

You can see if there is a DJ that wants to take over in the forum, or simply stop your stream. G|R|A-Cyborg will pick it up from there.

What is there is a live DJ playing?

Simple. Talk to him or her, see how long they'll be on. Take turns, etc.

What if they're taking forever or are AFK for an extended time?

If they have been AFK more than an hour, send a PM to aproxy or Sallas. We can boot them from the server if needed.

Thanks for the write up. I'm going to give a shot probably tomorrow.

Question though...are you able to do any voice over? By that I mean like a real DJ, and actually broadcast voice?

So, the short answer is "yes".

The long answer, is still yes, but I don't do it, so I can't really help you. I know there are a couple people that have done it successfully.

I am sure there are is some mixing software you could use. Winamp + Edcast is only one of the ways. Edcast can also take input from a live source. There is a microphone icon with a line through it.

Maybe someone can come up with a howto!
